Organisational level: Staff Team

Grade/Pay: Band B, scale point 18 to 24 (£26,537 - £31,687)

Contract: Fixed Term for 1 Year

Hours: Flexible, mostly within 8.30am-4.30pm weekdays. All working patterns considered, including term time only or job-shares. Between 0 – 30 hours available.

Base: Hybrid – Remote/Yellow Door (YD) as main base in Southampton with travel required across Southampton, Portsmouth and Hampshire. You will need to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.


CONTEXT OF JOB


Do you want to be part of an amazing charity that is quite literally changing lives for the better in the Southampton area? Yellow Door has a team of around 100 staff and volunteers, working together to prevent and respond to domestic and sexual abuse. We provide a diverse and innovative range of services to local people of all ages and genders. Last year we engaged with over 10,000 young people through our education outreach STAR Project.


We are looking for someone who will use their skills, experience, and creative flair to support Yellow Door’s aim to prevent and respond to domestic and sexual abuse. You will use your creativity to deliver Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) programmes for young people. You will have experience of engaging and motivating young people particularly when discussing sensitive subject matter for example domestic and sexual abuse.

PURPOSE OF JOB

  • To provide education outreach sessions to young people on topics relating to RSE.
  • To design and develop current educational content relating to issues impacting children and young people.
  • To raise awareness of the services available to support physical and emotional wellbeing.
  • To take a proactive and innovative approach to developing and maintaining the standards and systems of good practice within the STAR programme.


KEY DUTIES

  • Design and deliver creative and innovative Relationships & Sex Education (RSE) programmes mainly for young people and some adult groups. This is mostly in schools, colleges and youth settings.
  • Take responsibility on particular projects such as developing sessions that target and engage with specific groups, in consultation with the STAR Project Manager.
  • Through the delivery of sessions, you will:
    • Raise awareness of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and wider sex and relationship issues
    • Facilitate the development of emotional wellbeing and skills to negotiate more mutual and non-coercive relationships.
    • Support those affected to access the right support for their needs.
  • Upskill partner agencies by delivering training and information to identified agencies and venues
  • Keep up to date with current trends (research, guidance, media, social trends etc.) to ensure that session content is current and relevant to the communities we work with.
  • Develop and maintain strong links with key stakeholders in local community services and vulnerable groups.
  • Collect, collate and input, feedback/evaluations and data taken from all participants in sessions.
  • Act on any safeguarding issues which arise with individuals in accordance with Yellow Door’s safeguarding policy
  • Deliver a targeted outreach plan promoting the service, raising awareness across the community, attending key meetings and events.
  • Develop and maintain links within the community; working with a range of diverse groups offering awareness raising sessions, tailored sessions and individual work as agreed and in line with funding requirements.

Excellent communication and presentation skills

Knowledge of the current priorities and strategies to tackle violence against women and girls (including men and boys)

Ability to work autonomously in school and education-based settings

Ability and willingness to work in partnership, as part of team and commitment to working within the policies and ethos of the organisation

Well-developed IT skills using MS Office packages; Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

Experience of maintaining pro-active and collaborative alliances with colleagues, stakeholders and partners and working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team

Knowledge of RSE, an understanding of the impact of sexual abuse/ violence on young people including common issues, risks, gender stereotypes, challenges and effects.

All staff are required to attend/undertake mandatory training, as well as keep updated any skills or qualifications that are relevant to their role at YD, including any membership of professional bodies.


Wellbeing

The postholder is expected to tolerate and manage appropriately what can occasionally be emotionally charged contact with clients and take individual responsibility for seeking assistance with any related concerns in order to remain professional, calm, reflective and empathic within their role.


Responsibility of role

The post holder is expected to comply with all YD policies, procedures and guidelines and uphold the values of YD at all times.

In any online activity, use of social media or engagement in social networks, employees should remain aware at all times of their association with YD and operate with due regard to their own safety. Any profile or content accessible to the public should be consistent with how you wish to present yourself to colleagues or clients and should also take into account your role as a representative of the organisation and its values.

This includes forming working or personal relationships with clients and service users within two years of them leaving the service.
