Job Title: Residential Childcare Worker
Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Shifts: Rota-based (including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins)

The Role:
As a Residential Childcare Worker, you will play a vital role in the lives of children and young people aged 8–17 who have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences. You will be a key figure in building trusting relationships, supporting their emotional and behavioural development, and helping them achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day care, guidance, and support to children and young people in a residential setting.
- Work as part of a team to implement care plans and routines.
- Support children with emotional regulation, education, and life skills.
- Promote positive behaviour and manage challenging situations in a calm and therapeutic manner.
- Participate in activities, outings, and family-style routines that build trust and stability.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to regular reports and reviews.
- Ensure safeguarding and welfare are at the heart of your work.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children or young people in a care, education, or support setting (residential experience desirable).
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards this within 2 years of employment).
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to challenging behaviour.
- A full UK driving licence (essential due to location and potential travel needs).
- Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins (additional sleep-in payments may apply).
