Main Purpose of the Role
To work collaboratively within a team to promote the emotional, social and physical wellbeing of children and young people accommodated at the residential home.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provision of Care
- Deliver emotional and physical/medical care to children and young people residing in the home.
- Support their educational, welfare and developmental needs in accordance with individual care plans.
- Ensure their material and domestic needs are met.
- Provide supervision to promote safety and stability.
- Attend child care reviews and meetings, advocating for the wishes and views of the child or young person.
- Champion inclusivity and diversity across racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, linguistic, gender, health and general wellbeing needs.
2. Direct Engagement with Children and Young People
- Observe and record behaviour to assist in report preparation for reviews and meetings.
- Serve as a key worker, supporting children and young people in line with their care plans.
- Participate in informal group work with children, young people and families where appropriate.
- Organise and engage in educational and recreational activities tailored to individual interests.
- Maintain case records, contribute to report writing and document significant events.
- Perform domestic tasks, such as cleaning, meal preparation, laundry and shopping, to uphold a supportive living environment.
3. Collaborative Working
- Work in partnership with colleagues and establish constructive relationships across departments and agencies.
4. Professional Development
- Engage in supervision, team meetings and children’s seminars to foster continuous improvement.
- Attend and contribute to relevant training programmes and courses.
5. Work Schedule
- Work flexibly on a rota basis, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and overnight sleeping duties.
Essential
GCSE English or equivalent qualification, or the ability to demonstrate experience achieving this level.
NVQ Level III in working with Children and young people or equivalent
