RMBC are committed to improving the economic prospects of our tenants and residents. We are delivering major regeneration and housing as well as creating new jobs and opportunities for our residents. The RMBC Financial Inclusion Team seeks to support our residents in improving their financial situation to ensure tenancies are sustainable and in doing so assist in reducing poverty, improving health, raising educational attainment levels, and increasing the opportunities to access employment.
We are looking to appoint a Tenancy Support Officer who will have a passion for supporting people along with a working knowledge of the issues that can affect someone’s ability to sustain a tenancy.
As a member of our Tenancy Support Team the post holder will build financial confidence and capability with tenants with the aim of improving their ability to budget, manage money and sustain their tenancy. They will work proactively with tenants to prevent rent arrears accruing, prevent homelessness and reduce the need to incur bad debts.
Key duties will include:
- Providing a client centred holistic tenancy support service to new and existing tenants where necessary
- Supporting tenants and residents to become financially empowered through the provision of advice surrounding income maximisation and budgeting, and to raise awareness of their responsibilities as a tenant to pay rent, prevent arrears accruing and manage their tenancy.
- Maximising Housing and Welfare Benefit take-up by raising awareness of entitlement, the process and time scales to ensure claims are put into payment and to assist with the completion of application forms, verification of proof of income where appropriate.
- Providing advice to limit the impact of Welfare Reforms and the implementation of Universal Credit.
The Housing Income Service, including the Tenancy Support Team will operate between 08.00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday, and 08:30 and 12:30 on Saturday. The post holder will be required to work on a rota to cover service provision during these times as part of the operating arrangements.
The post holder must be able to drive to locations across the borough and have access to a vehicle.

Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of 1.15% spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded three additional days leave (pro rata for part-time).
