Job Summary
We are a growing, independent nursery in Doncaster with a turnover exceeding £1 million, proud to provide exceptional childcare in a nurturing environment. As the business expands, we are seeking an experienced and highly organised individual to take charge of our back-office operations.
This is a key position supporting the day-to-day running of the business. Reporting directly to the Director, you'll manage all clerical and finance tasks, including payroll, budgeting, rotas, and general admin. The role requires someone with strong attention to detail, the ability to manage competing tasks, and excellent communication skills.
Duties
- Manage weekly and monthly payroll using Sage 50
- Maintain staff rotas and handle absence/holiday tracking
- Budget tracking and financial forecasting
- Monthly management accounts
- Basic bookkeeping and invoice management
- Answer phones and respond to email enquiries
- Liaise with suppliers, parents, and external services
- Maintain HR records and DBS checks
- Order office and nursery supplies
- Support with compliance, grant and funding applications, and reporting
Experience
- Proven experience in an administrative or clerical role
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent data entry skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, complemented by a professional phone manner.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in an office/admin or finance role (ideally within a small business or childcare setting)
- Familiarity with payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organisational skills and initiative
- A friendly, professional manner – comfortable dealing with staff and parents
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
Desirable but not essential:
- AAT qualification or similar finance background
- Experience working in education, early years, or care environments
