We are looking for someone to cover walks in and around Portsmouth, small animal visits and pet sitting in the customer's own home overnight. You must have a driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle for this role.
Job summary
- Collect, exercise and care for customers’ dogs.
- Care for customers' pets in their own homes.
Key People and Teams
- Report to the branch manager and work with the dog walking team to provide a high-quality dog walking and pet care services.
Main duties
- Drive to and from customers' homes to pick up and drop off up to four dogs at a time.
- Drive to customers' homes to carry out pet visits
- Stay over at customers' homes when required
- Ensure the security and cleanliness of customers’ homes when coming in and out of premises.
- Transport dogs safely to and from their walks in own vehicle.
- Walk dogs outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Understand special requests and specific conditions for each pet, and treat them all with love and attention.
- Ensure each dog is getting plenty of physical exercise and a toilet break.
- Ensure the safety of the dogs you are walking and anyone else around them, by following the Health and Safety policy and keeping dogs on the lead (unless requested otherwise).
- Remove pet waste and dispose of accordingly.
- Take photos of the pets in their care.
- Communicate clearly with managers and customers regularly.
- Refresh water, wipe paws and towel wet dogs down.
- Attend customer visits with their Manager.
- Meet regularly with manager to discuss progress, performance and development.
- Ensure schedules and hours are up to date each week.
- Additional duties if required
- Conduct initial consultations with new customers and fill out client information sheets.
Requirements
- Candidates need to be able to drive to and from customer homes, in their own vehicle and walk for up to 4 hours per day, in all weathers.
- They need to be able to lift, exercise, handle and restrain dogs.
- Candidates must be able to write well and communicate clearly with clients and their manager.
- Able to follow instructions as well as being able to think on their feet and make decisions quickly when it comes to dealing with unexpected problems/situations that may arise during a walk.
- Have a mobile phone and daily Internet access.
- Have their own reliable transportation (with insurance, tax & MOT) and knowledge of the area (or access to sat nav equipment).
- Training and induction
- Submit to a police and reference check. Take and pass the Pet First Aid Certification course (course will be paid for by We Love Pets).
- Carry out a trial walk and training week to ensure suitability.
- Undergo any training, as deemed necessary by We Love Pets, at all stages of their employment.
- Must be flexible between 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, occasional weekend work.
