TECHNICAL COORDINATOR – ENGINEER SUPPORT
Location: Office-based (with occasional site surveys)
Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 per annum

This is primarily an office based technical coordination role requiring hands-on engineering experience or in-depth understanding of automated systems such as gates, barriers, roller shutter doors or powered pedestrian doors. If your background is primarily in admin, planning, or non-technical coordination, this role will not be suitable. Ideal applicants will have experience as an engineer or technician, or in a technical support role related to automation, electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic systems but experience in other similar technical support environments will be considered.
JOB PURPOSE
A key office-based role that provides technical oversight and administrative support that mirrors the technical depth of our field engineers. The role provides technical support to engineers, interprets service data, produces professional reports and quotations, manages the procurement of parts whilst ensuring operational quality, technical accuracy, and efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Service Reporting & Documentation
- Review engineer-submitted service records, photos and fault diagnostics.
- Compile and send client-ready service reports and test certificates.
- Communicate recommended maintenance or repair actions clearly to clients.
2. Quotations & Parts Coordination
- Prepare quotations for new installations and repair work.
- Source suitable replacement parts/spares and liaise with suppliers on lead times and technical compatibility.
3. Technical Support & Product Knowledge
- Interpret installation/maintenance manuals and technical drawings.
- Provide technical guidance to support engineers remotely.
- Keep up-to-date with automation systems for gates, barriers, shutters, and access control in partnership with equipment suppliers.
- Understand legislation and compliance standards for products and safety systems.
- Leverage AI tools to optimize reporting and diagnostic logic.
4. Operational & Planning Support
- Work closely with the Operations Coordinator on scheduling and resource planning.
- Produce Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals for installed projects.
- Ensure engineers are prepared with relevant documentation for site visits.
5. Communication & Collaboration
- Maintain professional communication standards with engineers, clients, and suppliers.
- Occasionally conduct site surveys to support team handovers or client walkthroughs.
- Be the technical liaison for troubleshooting and operational coordination.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
- Technical/engineering background (mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems).
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and general PC literacy.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solver with a logical, organised approach.
- Clear communicator comfortable liaising with engineers and suppliers by phone or email.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and manage technical documentation efficiently.
- Motivation to learn, adapt to new systems, and support a dynamic technical environment.
- Full UK driving licence (useful for occasional site visits).
Desirable:
- Prior experience in installation/service/automation industries (gates, barriers, access control).
- Background in producing technical quotes or client-facing reports.
- Familiarity using AI tools, CRM or job management software.
