Creating safe homes and communities where our customers can thrive is a key priority for us here at East Devon District Council. To help us do this we are now looking for talented colleagues to join our Property and Assets teams to support our Responsive Repairs, Compliance and Void service delivery.
As our Stock Condition Surveyor, what will you be doing?
Are you passionate about improving homes and communities? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a solid background in building surveying? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for a Stock Condition Surveyor to join our Property and Asset Team at East Devon District Council. You’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of our housing stock of approximately 4,200 properties by collecting and analysing condition data to inform strategic investment decisions.
As our Stock Condition Surveyor, you’ll be at the heart of our strategic asset management efforts, helping shape the future of East Devon District Council’s housing stock. You’ll carry out detailed surveys across a rolling programme, assessing the condition and lifespan of key building components in our 4,500 properties. Your work will inform investment decisions and support the delivery of capital works programmes. You’ll ensure data accuracy across our systems, evaluate energy efficiency ratings, and identify health and safety hazards using HHSRS. You’ll also validate external survey data, support disrepair claims, and contribute to customer service excellence. This role involves lone working, site visits, and occasional out-of-hours support, all while promoting tenant engagement and maintaining high standards of compliance and safety.
About you
We’re seeking a technically skilled and customer-focused professional with a building-related qualification (HNC or equivalent) and experience in stock condition surveying. You’ll need a solid understanding of building construction, CDM regulations, and housing standards, alongside knowledge of health and safety, energy efficiency, and asset management systems. Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in IT and attention to detail are key, and while membership of RICS or similar bodies is desirable, it’s not essential. A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are required
While the technical bit is important, we want people who are customer focussed and understand the importance of working collaboratively and are committed to taking a unique approach to each situation too.
If you’re interested in discussing this role further please contact our Corporate Lead for Housing Property & Assets Manage, Nathan Muggeridge at [email protected]
