We invite applications to join our integrated teaching and research teams at Birmingham City University’s College of the Built Environment at Senior Lecturer level. Located in a modern £300M campus in the heart of Birmingham City Centre, the College is a thriving, vibrant, and inspiring learning community committed to excellence in research, high quality teaching, and industrial engagement. Building on continuous success in student growth and in sustained advancement of research activities, the College has embarked on a programme of extensive expansion funded by substantial long-term investment.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in at least in one of the following areas:

You will become the Course Leader and lead the new MRes scheme in the College of Built Environment, due to be launched in September 2025, be responsible for contributing to the design and development of high quality, up-to-date modules in Urban Development and/or Digital Built Environment and related disciplines, supervise MRes students projects, while providing an excellent student experience. You will also conduct high quality research leading to publications in leading academic journals, develop bids and partnerships for research funding.

You will have the ability to teach core Urban Development and/or Digital Built Environment modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level and possess excellent presentation and teaching skills. Eligible for Chartered Engineer status with a suitable for your discipline professional body.

For this role we will consider applicants both with an industry and/or a research background. Chartered status with an appropriate professional body, industry experience as a UK-based consultant or contractor, and higher education teaching experience would be desirable.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Paul Laycock, Head of Subject for Urban Development ([email protected]) .

At the heart of our Strategy for 2030 and Beyond, it is our mission to enable our students to transform their lives and to achieve their potential. Through our education and research, and the roles our graduates go on to play in the world, we not only support individuals to transform their lives, but we also play a part in transforming society.

Located in the centre of the UK’s second city, we are a university with a long heritage of innovation and of making, dating back to our origins in 1843 when we were founded as the Birmingham Government School of Design.

Our heritage of making through innovation and its application through knowledge exchange, and of creative research and practice, today finds it expression in our STEAM agenda, in our research and enterprise, and in our commitment to challenge-based learning. Working across disciplines, and delivering impactful research and enterprise, interdisciplinarity is at the heart of the continuing transformation of our academic portfolio.
