Care Dorset launched in October 2022 as a new provider supporting adults across a range of support models and in different settings including reablement, day services, supported living, and residential care. The role
To lead on all safeguarding matters across the organisation, ensuring we provide a safe and supportive environment for all people in our care. You will be the go-to person for colleagues, the people we support, and families when there are concerns about abuse or neglect, and you'll make sure safeguarding is everyone's business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the organisation.
- Provide clear advice, support, and guidance to colleagues on safeguarding concerns.
- Receive, record, and escalate safeguarding alerts appropriately to the local authority and other relevant bodies.
- Liaise with external agencies (e.g., safeguarding teams, CQC, police) as required.
- Keep accurate, confidential records of safeguarding concerns and actions taken.
- Regularly review safeguarding policies and procedures, keeping them up to date with best practice and legislation.
- Lead or support safeguarding investigations as needed.
- Deliver or coordinate safeguarding training for staff and ensure compliance with mandatory requirements.
- Work closely with managers and teams to promote a strong safeguarding culture throughout the organisation.
- Monitor trends and learning from safeguarding cases to improve practice and reduce risk.

Person Specification:
Must Haves
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and guidance (e.g. Care Act 2014)
- Experience dealing with safeguarding concerns in a care or health setting.
- Confidence to challenge poor practice and advocate for the safety of individuals.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with sensitive issues.
- Excellent communication, record-keeping, and organisational skills.
- Passion for person-centred care and improving the quality of life for the people we support.
- Ability to develop Safeguarding awareness across Care Dorset
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and services.
Good to Have
- Safeguarding Level 3 training (or willingness to complete).
- Experience in multi-agency working and attending safeguarding strategy meetings.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g. CQC, local safeguarding boards).
- Experience working within a care home or similar setting.
- Knowledge of best practice and person-centred care.
- Experience using digital platforms.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks relevant to care home engagement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
- Always puts the individual at the centre of decisions.
Additional Information:
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle may be required along with the flexibility to travel between services across Dorset as required.
