The Governors of Shotton Primary School are looking to appoint a highly organised, approachable, caring, reliable, resilient and non-judgemental Safeguarding and Attendance Officer who will put the needs of our children first.
The Safeguarding and attendance Officer will:
- Work proactively and collaboratively to support the school to ensure that the highest possible standards of safeguarding are in place, exercising professional curiosity.
- Be the main front-line contact for safeguarding issues arising on a day-to-day basis.
- The Safeguarding and Attendance Officer will work independently and alongside key staff in school and the Local Authority to:
- Promote excellent attendance and punctuality for all children.
- Reduce levels of absence and persistent absence.
- Work with children and families to promote high levels of attendance and punctuality.We are looking to appoint someone who:
- Is able to adapt easily and learn new systems and procedures.
- Knows how to interpret and understand information and data.
- Has a working knowledge of safeguarding requirements and their vital importance.
- Has proven ICT skills.
- Is able to work with parents/carers effectively and sensitively.
- Is able to work with understanding, compassion, tact and diplomacy, alongside being able to be direct.
- Is able to foster, develop and maintain positive relationships on a variety of levels.
Responsibilities include:
- Making safeguarding referrals when necessary, completing appropriate paperwork.
- Supporting in dealing with high level concerns.
- Reporting to the Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Gathering, sharing, maintaining and compiling information.
- Attending safeguarding conferences and professional meetings.
- Conduct home visits and make/take phone calls with regards to attendance.
- Ensure statutory paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
- Manage and develop school attendance reward systems.
- Interpret and understand data.
- Monitor and report on attendance.
- Develop action plans, in order to improve the attendance of individual pupils and address attendance concerns.
- Support with administrative tasks.

The position is term time only plus 2 weeks. Salary will be pro rata.
Calculation of term time only plus two weeks’ pay
Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated on the basis of the following:
- Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks; plus
- Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
- Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks; plus
- Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
- Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years’ service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years’ service will receive 32 days annual leave.For example:Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service:40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalmentsCalculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service:40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalmentsShotton Primary School
