We are looking for a SEND & Safeguarding Children Lead to join our team over the Summer holidays delivering on the Holiday Activity & Food Programme.
Molly's Gift have been delivering Holiday Activity & Food Programmes since 2021 for younger children aged 4-11, and in recent years have expanded to provide a Summer programme for older school children, aged 11-16.
The ideal candidate will have experience overseeing the care of children with additional and complex needs, as well as experience leading on safeguarding concerns.
The SEND & Safeguarding Lead will play a dual role in ensuring the inclusion, safety, and well-being of all children and young people attending the holiday camp. The role focuses on supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and leading safeguarding practices in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
SEND Lead Duties:
- Act as the point of contact for all matters related to SEND during the camp.
- Liaise with parents/carers and staff prior to and during camp to gather relevant information about children's additional needs.
- Plan and implement appropriate support strategies and reasonable adjustments to ensure full participation and inclusion.
- Offer advice and guidance to staff on managing behaviour, communication needs, and sensory or physical challenges.
- Monitor and review the effectiveness of support provided to SEND participants.
- Maintain accurate records of needs, adjustments, and outcomes.
Safeguarding Lead Duties:
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the camp.
- Ensure all staff and volunteers are aware of and follow safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to any safeguarding concerns or disclosures.
- Liaise with external agencies, including the First Response Team, Social Services and Leicestershire County Council, where necessary.
- Ensure all safeguarding records are accurately documented and stored confidentially.
- Deliver or support safeguarding training and briefings for staff prior to camp start.
General Duties:
- Model excellent practice in inclusion, safety, and behaviour management.
- Support with overall camp supervision and activity delivery as needed.
- Ensure risk assessments reflect the needs of SEND children and safeguarding requirements.
- Promote a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for all.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Experience working with children/young people with SEND.
- Sound knowledge of safeguarding procedures and child protection responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Calm, proactive, and flexible approach.
- Experience in a leadership or key-worker role in schools, care, or youth settings.
- Be able to travel between each camp within Loughborough throughout the day.
Desirable:
- Senior SEND experience
- SEND qualifications (e.g., Level 3+ in SEND, SENCo training).
- DSL training or equivalent.
- Paediatric First Aid certification.
- Experience in a holiday camp or out-of-school setting.
- Experience liaising with external agencies, including social care services.
A fully enhanced DBS is essential. We can provide this if you do not already have one.
The role will be temporary over the 6 week Summer holidays, with up to 35 hours a week available. If successful, there will be other opportunities for casual work within other Molly's Gifts projects, including Saturday Club and other half term camps across the year.
