Let’s transform society together
We’re Sweco.
We’re future planners, city shapers, urban innovators, digital transformers, net zero chasers, community connectors, social enterprisers and lifestyle improvers.
We’re difference makers.
We’re Europe’s leading design, engineering, environment and regulatory consultancy and we’re now recruiting for a Principal Hydrogeologist to join our Groundwater team in Glasgow.
These roles can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.
At Sweco, we draw upon a combined knowledge base of 20,000 experts across Northern Europe. More technologies, more skills, and more inventive solutions mean we can apply global knowhow, locally across the full spectrum of lifecycle services in both water engineering and wider water management. More importantly, we have a proven record of transferring innovation from other countries and sectors into the UK water industry.
What does the role involve?
Working within a team environment you’ll utilise your technical expertise to ensure the provision of a multi-disciplinary consultancy service for Sweco’s clients working on the delivery of groundwater resources projects, from aquifer development, management and protection for public and private water supply to EIA and construction support for major infrastructure schemes and local developments.
Examples of projects that our groundwater team are working on at present include long-term water quality and water resources investigations for the WINEP and other drivers, as well as the development of private water supplies. We are also supporting major highways schemes, water companies and private developers on schemes across the country from the preliminary design and EIA stage through to construction, via the design and implementation of groundwater monitoring and testing programmes, groundwater flooding studies, dewatering assessment and permitting.
As a Principal Hydrogeologist you’ll manage the delivery of groundwater projects or act as specialist discipline lead within a multidisciplinary team to achieve agreed time, cost and quality targets. You will work with the team leader to develop new business for the groundwater and wider water environment teams.
You’ll maintain client contact for project delivery and ensure that project delivery meets the client’s objectives and requirements. You’ll provide technical guidance, support and training to colleagues and assist, where practicable, in mentoring and development of others.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess:
- A BSc and preferably either a MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or a closely related discipline.
- Chartered membership with a relevant professional body such as the Geological Society or CIWEM.
- Experience in water resources hydrogeology, WINEP, engineering hydrogeology (including dewatering), environmental impact assessment, and borehole construction and rehabilitation. A track record of working with or for UK water companies is preferred.
- Recent experience of the application of Modflow (Groundwater Vistas) on real world projects is also of benefit
- Experience of managing projects and acting as technical discipline lead on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Knowledge of commonly used standard contracts for site investigations would be an advantage.
- The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members, contractors and clients. Must be able to produce well-structured reports in clear English, and to critically review reports produced by others.
- Maintain good links within the wider groundwater community to enhance technical knowledge, and to build and maintain contacts that may provide opportunities for collaboration or business development.
- Support the relevant professional institutions through active participation on committees and at conferences
- Competence in the application of standard hydrogeological and monitoring equipment software such as AquiferWin 32 and Diver Office, and ArcGIS.
- Competence in the application of standard field equipment.
What’s in it for you?
This is an exciting time to join Sweco and if you want to be part of a company who is small in all the best ways but large enough to provide a diverse and exciting workload, this job is for you.
You will continue to learn from experienced people who share a passion for working together with our clients to deliver technical excellence. You will be encouraged to support the profession though active involvement in conferences and professional institutions, and to further develop your industry network.
If you believe you have the skill set required, are keen to join a business with genuine opportunities for career progression, then we’d love to hear from you.
