Outreach Tutor/Mentor – Telford
Are you a qualified educator with a passion for supporting young people? Join Chalkline Education as an Outreach Tutor/Mentor and help learners thrive through flexible, one-to-one support.
Essential Requirements:
To proceed to the next stage, candidates must hold a relevant teaching qualification, such as:
- QTS or PGCE
- PTLLS, CTLLS or DTLLS
- Level 3 AET
- Level 3 TA or HLTA
About the Role:
We are looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Outreach Tutors/Mentors to deliver one-to-one sessions to pupils who require additional academic and pastoral support. You will plan and deliver engaging, tailored lessons, focusing on boosting confidence, closing learning gaps, and encouraging motivation.
Most pupils will need help with Maths and English, and may have additional needs such as SEN, be in care, or be struggling with school attendance. Each learner is unique, and our approach is personalised to reflect that.
What You'll Be Doing:
Planning & Delivery
- Design and deliver tailored, fun and interactive lessons based on each pupil’s learning style and academic needs.
- Adjust teaching methods during sessions to suit the pupil’s mood, pace, and ability on the day.
Session Details
- Sessions usually run between 08:30 and 16:30, Monday to Friday, in line with school hours.
- Locations vary and may include the pupil’s home, their school, or a local public venue.
- All locations and schedules are agreed in advance to ensure they suit both you and the learner.
Learner Profiles
- Pupils are typically aged 11–16 and may include:
- Looked-after children
- Learners with SEND
- Pupils not currently accessing mainstream education
- You’ll be supported by the Chalkline team to understand each pupil’s background and tailor your sessions accordingly.
Working Hours & Pay:
- You’ll be paid for each hour of tutoring delivered, based on the agreed schedule for each pupil.
- Pay rates: £26–£34 per hour, depending on the assignment.
- We prioritise matching you with pupils close to your location. For travel over 30 minutes, a higher rate will be agreed to reflect the additional time.
Employment Type:
You’ll be engaged as an agency worker, meaning:
- No need to register as self-employed (although we can support you if you prefer to do so).
- Weekly pay.
- Flexibility to fit around your other commitments.
Resources & Reporting:
- Access a wide range of teaching materials and platforms, including Twinkl and BKSB.
- In cases where sessions are online, tools such as MS Teams or Bramble will be provided and supported.
- Complete a short report after each session, including SMART targets for tracking pupil progress.
- Submit your session notes and timesheets weekly, by Friday.
- All documentation and communication will be supported via Google Drive and your dedicated Chalkline email account.
