We have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal File Reviewer to join our Compliance/Risk Management Department.
Job Description:
This is a part-time position requiring 16 hours per week, with flexibility for hybrid or remote working to suit your schedule and lifestyle. Ideal for a retired lawyer wishing to keep a hand in the profession or someone looking to move away from case work or returning to the profession after some time out.
You will conduct systematic audits of legal files across various departments to ensure we meet, and exceed regulatory standards, professional obligations, and internal best practices.
You will act as a critical safeguard for the firm, identifying legal, procedural, and risk-based issues, supporting internal training, and helping to ensure our services are consistently excellent and legally robust.
What You Will Be Doing
- Conduct scheduled and ad hoc audits of both live and archived files across multiple practice areas.
- Review for legal accuracy, procedural compliance, client care standards, and effective risk management.
- Ensure adherence to SRA regulations, Lexcel and ISO9001 standards, AML requirements, and internal policies.
- Provide constructive feedback to case workers and contribute to continuous improvement across the firm.
- Collaborate with department heads to help shape internal training, risk controls, and best practices.
What We Are Looking For
- A qualified solicitor, legal executive, or equivalent with substantial experience in private practice.
- Expertise in at least two of the following: Litigation, Family, Wills & Probate, Commercial Property, or Corporate Law.
- A strong understanding of SRA Code of Conduct, AML obligations, and compliance frameworks.
- Meticulous attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to critically assess legal work.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills — you will work closely with lawyers and leaders across the business.
- Previous experience in legal auditing, risk management, or compliance is desirable.
