Are you an experienced Lecturer who can teach British and European Early Medieval History? Do you have a passion for Medieval History and are you available for a fixed term contract to start in September? If so, then the School of Humanities would like to hear from you.

The School of Humanities seeks to appoint a fixed-term Lecturer in Early Medieval History (c.400-1100). We welcome applications from interested individuals with specialism in any aspect of this period. You will need to have an ability to teach British and European Early Medieval History. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching of first- and second-year core medieval history modules, and to convene a second-year optional module on ‘Warriors, Myths and Migrants: The Early Medieval Kingdoms’.

You will work with the Director of Education of the School of Humanities and the Director of Studies for History to ensure the effective delivery of undergraduate medieval history provision, and will also have the opportunity to supervise undergraduate dissertations and contribute to MA teaching in the Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies (MEMS).

As a Lecturer in Early Medieval History you can expect to be involved in:

  • Teaching of first- and second-year core (required) modules in Medieval History
  • Convening of second-year optional module ‘Warriors, Myths and Migrants’
  • Supervising undergraduate dissertations in Medieval History
  • Contributing to team-taught modules in the MEMS MA programme

What will you bring to the role?

  • Degree, PhD in History / Medieval History or a relevant discipline or equivalent
  • A relevant teaching qualification (e.g. PGCHE) or equivalent experience of teaching excellence
  • Ability and passion to teach British and European early medieval history
  • Experience of teaching at university level
