Laboratory Secretary / Higher Level - Infection Sciences

Band 4 - 37.5hours per week, Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle

Band 4 Laboratory Secretary for the Infection Sciences Department at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. This an exciting opportunity to join the Infection Sciences team.

The Infection Science service is part of the North Cumbria Pathology Service and comprises Microbiology, Virology and Immunology laboratories provided as an integrated service for two hospital sites. The Infection Science laboratories provide 24/7 support to the acute hospitals, and direct access for samples from GP practices and community hospitals across North Cumbria.

This role will be crucial to the efficient day to day delivery of the service.

Act as the focal point of communication for the consultants and their team, confidentiality being the key issue at all times. Provide a high standard of secretarial and administrative support to the consultants, medical staff, Operational Managers, Team Managers and the scientific team. Interact with other departments within the organisation, patients, GPs, outside organisations and service users . Provision of shorthand, audio, typing and all other clerical requirements. Prepare and process invoices from suppliers and to service users. Provide training and supervision to the secretarial team

Postholder will be the “Face” of Infection Sciences for all visitors to the department.
