As we enter a new phase of rapid global growth, we are seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support the smooth and efficient operation of our laboratory, assisting with high-quality sample processing and accurate data generation for our commercial clients. The candidate will report to our Laboratory Manager and will gain experience of a support role within a molecular laboratory and enjoy working in a dynamic, collaborative, team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Sample reception duties
    including receipt and processing of client eDNA samples in Sample Reception, ensuring compliance with our regulatory import licenses; completing and maintaining of data entry records on our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to provide accurate, traceable data for communication to the Client Delivery, Science and Operations teams, linked to various internal KPIs.
  • Laboratory operational duties such as stock control and laboratory housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe working environment; laboratory waste management; receipt and handling of goods; Laboratory preparation of commercial kit components and laboratory reagents for use by our clients and teams internally; general administrative tasks and other lab-based duties as required to contribute to the smooth operation of the laboratories.
  • Manage equipment lifecycle by onboarding/offboarding, routine/non-routine maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Adhere to laboratory protocols and ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety standards (e.g., COSHH, risk assessments, and occupational health and safety legal requirements).

About you

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a passion for commercial laboratory operations and an interest in molecular biology. The ideal candidate will have:


  • Experience previously of working in a commercial laboratory setting and with using a LIMS system is advantageous, though full training will be provided.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely
  • Basic computer literacy and proficiency in software applications including word processing (Microsoft Word, Google Docs); spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets); presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides)
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
