We are currently seeking a Gym Instructor at Thirsk & Sowerby Leisure Centre
Role summary:
You will work within North Yorkshire Council’s Leisure Services team to engage, facilitate, educate and support clients in the gym environment. You will be line managed by the Duty Manager and/or relevant member(s) of the Leisure Centre Management Team. The role involves supervision of customers, ensuring their safety and satisfaction whilst following North Yorkshire Council’s policies and procedures at all times.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- To deliver and supervise all activities associated within the gym, observing safe working practices, ensuring the health and safety and wellbeing of all users, including the checking and authorisation of health forms.
- Support customers on a one-to-one basis to assess their needs, offer advice and make recommendations on the most suitable programme for them, providing ongoing support.
- Provide a friendly and welcoming environment which encourages and supports continual interaction, delivering and maintaining high levels of customer service at all times making every effort to assist the customer or find a colleague that can, in the event you are unable to, effectively communicating your action.
- To be part of the centre team working towards the centres vision, purpose, values and service standards and objectives.
- To facilitate tours and customer enquiries about the gym and other key products within the Leisure Centre providing correct information to prospective members regarding facilities, programmes, products and prices.
- To undertake continual professional development throughout employment and attend service specific training.
- To undertake cleaning and maintenance tasks in the gym and update associated schedules, ensuring faults are recorded and updating any associated schedules.
- Support in undertaking risk assessments and implementing appropriate health and safety procedures in the fitness suite.
- To support and motivate customers through the Councils weight management and exercise referral service offering physical activity plans and reviews. Liaise with Public Health / Primary Care Trust when and where necessary.
- To assist in the organisation, operation and the undertaking of all promotional work associated with special events, challenges and promotions.
- To respond quickly and efficiently to problems arising and, when necessary, respond to emergencies and take appropriate action in accordance with the Council’s Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Wear staff issued uniform and to ensure professional appearance at all times whilst at work.
What you will bring…
Experience / Qualifications:
- Awareness of health and safety issues
- Working in the leisure industry, preferably in a fitness suite capacity/environment
- Working with relevant age/ability groups
- Ability to work effectively within the team and forge excellent working relationships
- Be able to give clear, accurate instructions to all customers and gain a rapport.
- Be able to adapt to different ages/abilities and sensitive to individual needs
- Good verbal and written skills
- Ability to demonstrate high levels of customer service at all times.
- Reliable, enthusiastic, self-motivated and approachable.
- Work unsupervised and show initiative
