Job Purpose
To support the rewinding and repair of electrical motors, stators, armatures, and transformers under supervision. The trainee will develop foundational skills in winding, insulation, testing, and documentation, with the aim of becoming a fully competent Winding Department Engineer.
The role will provide hands-on experience across key areas of the winding department and contribute to high-quality repair services.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Supervised Work
Work under supervision to learn core winding techniques, tools, and materials. Gradually build confidence in stripping, insulating, and rewinding components.
Rewinding Assistance
Assist in rewinding tasks on stators, rotors, armatures, and transformers using standard methods and appropriate materials.
Preparation Work
Help prepare components for rewinding by stripping old windings, cleaning, and applying insulation.
Testing and Quality Control
Observe and assist with insulation resistance and surge testing. Learn the purpose and process of each test.
Documentation and Reporting
Learn to accurately record repair and rewind work, including time spent, materials used, and test results using the company’s business operating system (BOS).
Tooling and Equipment Management
Learn to handle and maintain hand tools, winding machinery, and measuring equipment safely.
Health and Safety Compliance
Follow all health and safety procedures, ensuring safe working practices, including handling of hazardous materials and operating machinery.
Continuous Improvement
Engage with training opportunities and be open to learning new winding and repair techniques.
Team Collaboration
Work alongside experienced engineers and team members to deliver work to required standards and deadlines.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- No prior experience required
- Eagerness to learn and develop practical skills
- Ability to follow instructions
- Positive attitude and willingness to contribute
Desirable
- Previous workshop or engineering experience (e.g. apprenticeship, college placement)
Studying towards or holding a Level 2/3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
