Salary/rate:
The position will be paid at the Oxford Living Wage, currently £13.16/hour
Role Requirements:
15 hours/week on average, with flexibility required in order to adapt to unexpected/varying needs, including evenings and weekends
About us:
Abingdon Community Fridge (ACF) fights food waste by redistributing surplus food from local businesses and members of the community. The Abingdon Community Fridge is open to all.
About the role:
This role will involve overseeing the running of the Abingdon Community Fridge on a day to day basis. They will liaise with the Outreach and Development and Volunteering Coordinators and will report to the Volunteer Committee.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain a rota to assure appropriate staffing levels for:
- Food collections
- Distribution sessions
- Cleaning
- Assure compliance with health and safety regulations, including assuring adequate cleaning supplies
- Maintain current information on allergens and storage requirements for various food types
- Inform volunteers of operations updates
- Along with other coordinators, serve as an ACF representative in a networking capacity
- Coordinate with third-party food distribution agencies
- Maintain contact with retail partners, troubleshoot any issues
- Arrange for distribution of any food that is to be shared with other groups; assure that waste food is handled appropriately (composted, sent to the farm, etc.)
- Organise ‘pop-up’ sessions when required
- Liaise with other users of Hadland Road Community Centre
- Prepare periodic reports for volunteer team meetings and an AGM
- Assure equipment is working properly; troubleshoot any issues
- Alongside the Volunteering Coordinator, engage with volunteers to offer appropriate support and address any concerns.
- Coordinate with the Volunteering coordinator to maintain and update the volunteer handbook
- Maintain and update templates for record keeping forms
Candidate requirements:
- Experience in a food charity or other food service environment preferred
- Experience of working in a volunteer-based organisation preferred
- Strong communication skills, including good command of spoken and written English
- Access to a smart phone, along with working knowledge of WhatsApp, are essential
- Experience working with the public strongly preferred
- Proof of Right to Work in the UK required
- Reside in the Abingdon area/within 30 minutes’ reach of Hadland Road Community Centre
