We are looking for a full time band 4 assistant psychologists in the adult learning disabilities service based within Stoke-On-Trent and North Staffordshire. Previous assistant pyschologist experience is essential.

We offer excellent clinical supervision and support.

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of adults with learning disabilities who have highly complex physical and mental health conditions which include challenging behaviours. To provide psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with the qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. To be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families.

To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

The post holder may be required to undertake any of the duties specified in the key result areas noted below. The relative priority and time allocated to each of the duties/key result areas will be determined by reference to service needs and may vary in the light of prevailing service priorities and requirements.

Clinical:
Utilising assessment techniques directly with clients and families, collecting information from the wider MDT and sometimes external agencies involved in the client’s care as appropriate.
Assists qualified psychologists in the scoring, analysis, interpretation and reporting of psychological assessments undertaken with clients and others.
Under the clinical supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, delivers or supports psychologically informed interventions. These will be developed or guided by the qualified psychologist or otherwise defined by protocol, for individual clients and for families/carers.
If required, and under the clinical supervision of a qualified psychologist, assists in the planning, development, co-ordination and delivery of therapeutic groups, including for example group approaches to the management of anxiety, low mood, or emotional regulation psycho-educational group approaches. Acts as co-therapist with qualified psychologist, other Assistant Psychologist or other designated clinician and as appropriate runs groups in accordance with agreed protocol.
When completing clinical duties, receives, obtains and communicates complex and sensitive clinical and personal information, sometimes in circumstances where there may be constraints on the motivation, cooperation, understanding or acceptance of the service users involved or their families.
Assists in the promotion of a psychologically informed approaches to the understanding and management of the problems and needs of all clients within the service area covered.
Attends and contributes appropriately to multi-disciplinary meetings, providing a psychological perspective or psychological information in conjunction with or on behalf of the qualified psychologist with supervises their practice.
