Adventure Expeditions (AE) is looking for an experienced Youth Mentor to join our SAFE Programme delivery team. SAFE is a Department for Education funded initiative targeted towards young people in mainstream education who are at risk of becoming involved in serious youth violence.
The AE SAFE Programme uses outdoor adventurous activities and bushcraft sessions as a platform for social skills development and mentoring. We want participants to enjoy their time with us and to learn new practical skills, whilst gaining the tools and confidence to make positive choices to help them re-engage with education.
JOB PURPOSE
As a Youth Mentor you will be part of a multidisciplinary team who support groups of 14 students through our SAFE programme. You will use your expertise to create a safe environment in which participants feel comfortable engaging with the programme. You will support Outdoor Instructors with the delivery of their sessions, and offer alternatives for participants that need time away from the main activities.
PLACE OF WORK
Sessions will start and finish from the AE head office in Hathersage. Delivery will take place in schools and various outdoor locations in the Peak District and around Sheffield.
HOURS OF WORK
This is a part time role; the programme runs during term time from Tuesday to Friday and working hours are from 8am to 4pm. We can take applications for 1 - 4 days work per week.
RATES OF PAY
£25000 - £28000 pro rata, depending on experience and qualifications.
DURATION OF CONTRACT
This is a fixed-term role. The start date is the 1st September 2025 though a later start will be considered for the right applicant. The contract ends on the 31st July 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish positive relationships with all young people. Supporting and enabling them to increase their confidence and realise their potential, and fully integrating them into all programme activities
- Facilitate the positive integration of young people with SEN and/or behavioural difficulties within the programme
- Mentor young people by supporting positive behaviours, delivering practical sessions and providing a safe space for engagement
- Provide guidance and support to youth in conflict management
- Adhere to AE policies and procedures in respect of safeguarding young people
- Support the programme instructor team with the planned activity sessions
- Provide input into programme planning, debriefs and reporting
