Job Title: Yard Operative (Driver & Forklift Operative)
Location: I&J Scaffolding
Hours of Work: 10:00 – 18:00, Monday to Friday
Salary: £27, 500 to £35, 000 depending on experience
Reporting To: Yard Manager / Site Supervisor
Job Purpose:
To ensure the efficient, safe, and accurate loading and unloading of scaffolding equipment, maintain yard organisation and cleanliness, and provide driving and forklift support as required. Some driving may also be required as and when.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load and unload scaffolding materials from company and third-party vehicles using appropriate manual handling techniques and forklift equipment.
- Ensure scaffolding equipment is correctly stored, stacked, and accessible in line with company procedures.
- Carry out daily forklift vehicle checks and report any defects immediately.
- Operate company vehicles to support logistics or collections/deliveries as required (subject to valid driving licence).
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard environment at all times.
- Assist with counting and inspecting returned scaffolding materials to check for damage or loss.
- Support stock control processes and report any shortages, damages, or safety issues.
- Ensure adherence to all site health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with yard staff, drivers, and site teams to coordinate timely and accurate vehicle turnarounds.
- Perform general yard duties as directed by the Yard Manager.
Key Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence (essential).
- Valid forklift licence (preferably Counterbalance) (desirable).
- Previous experience working in a construction, scaffolding, or builders’ merchant yard (preferred).
- Physically fit and capable of manual handling and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude to safety and organisation.
