We are seeking a skilled and motivated Working Foreman/Woman with a strong carpentry background to lead and supervise site-based construction works, with a hands-on role in the delivery of quality joinery and building tasks. This role is essential to ensuring that site operations run smoothly, safely, and to the highest standards of craftsmanship expected on heritage and bespoke projects.
You’ll be instrumental in bridging the gap between management and trades on site — leading by example with your tools, coordinating subcontractors, and managing day-to-day site activity.
Key ResponsibilitiesSite Leadership & Supervision
- Oversee day-to-day operations on site, ensuring compliance with health and safety, timelines, and quality standards.
- Directly manage site trades, subcontractors, and apprentices to ensure productivity and high-quality work.
- Act as the first point of contact for on-site issues and report progress to the project manager or director.
Hands-On Carpentry
- Carry out first and second fix carpentry, timber framing, traditional joinery installation, and bespoke carpentry tasks.
- Assist with setting out and interpreting drawings, ensuring work is built in line with project specifications.
- Lead by example on craftsmanship, especially on heritage or listed buildings requiring traditional methods.
Project Coordination
- Organize site logistics, deliveries, and access requirements.
- Work closely with the office team and clients to ensure site requirements and schedules are met.
- Maintain accurate site records, such as daily reports, site diaries, timesheets, and material usage.
Health, Safety & Quality
- Implement and maintain site health and safety standards including toolbox talks and risk assessments.
- Carry out regular inspections to ensure work is progressing safely and to specification.
- Maintain clean and organized working environments in line with company policy.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in carpentry, ideally within high-end residential or heritage projects.
- 2+ years experience in a supervisory or foreperson role on site.
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
- Competent with managing subcontractors and tradespeople.
- Familiarity with building regulations, site safety, and quality standards.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery (or equivalent).
- SSSTS or SMSTS qualification (preferred).
- First Aid at Work (preferred).
- Full UK driving licence.

Pay: £34,000.00-£42,000.00 per year
