Oxford University Museum of Natural History is recruiting a part-time (30 hours per week, Wed-Sat) Visitor Experience Assistant to join our busy team.
About the role
Working under the supervision of the Visitor Experience Manager, our close-knit team of Visitor Experience Assistants provide a friendly welcome to visitors to the Museum of Natural History (800,000+ visitors per year), and assist with enquiries. They also encourage donations to the Museum and conversions to Gift Aid. The Visitor Experience Assistants play an important role in ensuring visitor safety and in the security of the building and the Museum collection, and give introductions to visiting groups.
This is a permanent, part-time position working 30 hours per week across Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) due to access to museum collections.

This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, a professional attitude and a flexible approach to work. Ideally, the post holder will have experience of working in a museum or heritage visitor attraction, and experience working in a similar customer-focused environment.
The successful candidate will have a confident and proactive approach to dealing with problems and issues, as well as a positive attitude and a desire to gain knowledge of the Museum and to share this with our visitors.
What We Offer
Our range of employee benefits and discounts include 38 days leave (including bank holidays), extensive training and development opportunities, access to travel and childcare schemes, free entry to colleges, discounted access to sporting facilities and a wide range of other staff discounts. For more details, please see https://hr.admin.ox.ac.uk/staff-benefits.
Diversity
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example, shared parental leave.
We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible. If you require the job description or any other materials in an alternative format, or if you would like to request any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please contact the recruitment team at [email protected].
How to apply
Applicants are required to complete the online application form on Oxford University’s website and include a short CV and supporting statement addressing the selection criteria. The supporting statement should explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. This may include experience gained in employment, education, or during career breaks (such as time out to care for dependants).
For further details on the Museum please see our website www.oumnh.ox.ac.uk. The Chair of this recruitment panel will be Ellie Talbot, Visitor Experience Manager, who can be contacted with enquiries relating to the role ([email protected]).
