Job Title: Videographer

Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Westminster - We currently attend the office for a minimum of three days a week and you may be asked to attend for additional days when required, including out of hours.


We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented videographer to join our Content and Channels team.

In this fast-paced and impactful role, you will be part of a team responsible for managing our external and internal communication channels.

No two days will be the same. One day you could be capturing footage of a dawn raid; the next editing footage of a car chase and creating crime prevention graphics. Whether you are creating a TikTok video about our dog unit or producing long-form documentary content, you will be at the forefront of shaping how the Met communicates online.

If you’re passionate about creating video, photography and design for engaging social media content, and you want to work on high-profile issues that matter to Londoners, this is the job for you.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the production process from start to finish: conceptualising, coordinating, shooting and editing to final product delivery at pace, ensuring that the outputs meet the brief’s needs, speedy time constraints, quality and budget.
  • Shoot and edit both studio and location footage including interviews, pieces to camera, engaging b-roll, and promotional videos for campaigns and events.
  • Determine what equipment is required for shoots using our high-end kit list and have an intricate knowledge of camera set-up, lighting and audio. Help carry/transport kit when travelling to/from and around locations as required.
  • Direct talent including senior leaders, officers of all levels, influencers and stakeholders including the likes of government ministers with confidence, sensitivity and clear creative vision.
  • Project management to deliver multiple edits: you will need to balance longer form documentary style pieces alongside numerous other projects such as ongoing series, work with influencers and shorter edits of TikTok content or CCTV and Body Worn Video.
  • Shoot and edit photography including portraits, groups, presentations and large events.
  • Deployable: Policing is a 24/7 operation and so occasionally you will need to be deployable outside of office hours to support operational activity such as a raid or a night time policing operation at short notice. If at nights/weekends, you will be compensated.
  • Design graphics and engaging social media posts bespoke to social platform formats – Instagram, X, LinkedIn etc.
  • Work on fast-paced briefs, making technical and creative recommendations and presenting ideas for approval or development, explaining clearly and confidently how the creative work will achieve the key outcomes.
  • Discuss work schedules and status knowledgeably and confidently.
  • Manage multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Work with and foster feedback to develop content.
  • Work effectively as part of a team of other creatives and strategists.

Essential experience and personal skills:

  • 3+ years of industry experience or demonstrable equivalent industry knowledge and skills.
  • Excellent and proven knowledge of digital video production with a thorough understanding of production, timeframes and technical delivery.
  • Excellent knowledge across Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Illustrator (knowledge of After Effects is a bonus).
  • Proficient in self-shooting and equipment set-up, including sound and talent direction, and particularly an excellent knowledge of lighting techniques.
  • Creative flair, originality, a strong visual sense and ability to challenge where you feel innovation or improvements are needed.
  • Proactive and positive attitude and a passion for creating the best possible creative.
  • Strong communication and direction skills, bringing out the best from high-profile talent and diverse case studies, both on camera and behind the scenes.
  • Working knowledge of DSLR cameras and lenses (Sony experience is a plus).
  • Knowledge of using social media to test and refine messages, scaling up what works.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in media production, film production, performing arts or other related subject is preferred or equivalent practical on-the-job experience.

Please note:

  • This role requires regular travel as outlined, often multiple shoots in a week. The outside-of-standard office hours can be claimed back, or you have a later start time on those shoot days, in agreement with your line manager.
  • You will report into a senior member of the Content and Channels team.

Work Pattern: 36 hours a week split across 7 days. This will mean you will be required to undertake weekend working on a rota basis. You will often work from different locations across London and be willing to undertake content deployments during early mornings and evening, sometimes at short notice.
