Volant Media is on the lookout for a Transmission Operator to maintain a seamless and professional on-air presence, playing a crucial role in the Network Services department. The role involves managing all live news content, monitoring multiple feeds across diverse platforms, and facilitating coordination between the Live Galleries, MCR (Master Control Room), scheduling & Ingest teams during shifts.
Responsibilities
Quality Control & Playlist Management: Ensure adherence to the very best industry quality standards and maintain playlist continuity for a live 24/7 News TV channel. This includes preparing playlists for live output, identifying missing materials, and working closely with the scheduling & Ingest Departments.
Proactive Monitoring: Anticipate potential issues in playlists and content, implementing pre-emptive measures to prevent disruptions.
Communication & Coordination: Serve as a pivotal communication link between the Live Gallery director, MCR, and Ingest departments using Riedel talkback systems. Manage daily email communications across departments, ensuring smooth transmission of critical updates and resolving any issues promptly.
Technical Proficiency: Gain proficiency in various broadcast systems, with a focus on troubleshooting and effectively utilising broadcast automation playout systems.
Problem-Solving: Display adaptability and willingness to navigate and resolve challenges within our internal workflows, maintaining the high-quality output of live news channels.
Requirements
Technical Expertise: Previous experience with broadcast equipment operation is essential, with a preference for those with cloud-based system experience.
Operational Experience: A background in a live playout facility, particularly during high-pressure events, is crucial.
Adaptability & Learning: Openness to evolving workflows, with a keen interest in acquiring new skills and mastering novel software.
Analytical Skills: Strong capability in identifying, escalating, and documenting any operational issues encountered, coupled with a self-driven and analytical approach to problem-solving.
Focus & Communication: Exceptional concentration and composure in a dynamic live news setting are vital, alongside robust communication skills for effective teamwork and departmental coordination.
Operational Knowledge: A solid understanding of transmission technologies and broadcast automation playout systems is required.
