Under supervision and guidance abstract all the necessary information relating to inpatient and day case diagnoses and surgical procedures from both the case notes and the Trust’s electronic systems and input this into the patient administration system.
Undergo and participate in an ongoing supervised training period to acquire sufficient coding knowledge and expertise.
Attend training sessions where appropriate which may include travelling to other sites in the West Midlands area as necessary.
Successfully complete internal assessments and those at external training courses.
Gain a working knowledge of anatomy and physiology via online and face to face training.
Keep up to date with national and local coding rules and conventions.
Support the Deputy Head of Clinical Administration, ensuring clear communication and robust implementation of policy, business objectives and agreed targets.
Participating in presentations to key stakeholders within Performance and Informatics where required
Develop good working relationships with members of staff at all levels, both within the Trust and external agencies.
Ensure that security and confidentiality is maintained at all times, adhering to the General Data Protection Regulation and Caldicott recommendations.

Be a flexible member of the Performance and Informatics Team, providing assistance to other staff within the department and covering the work of colleagues during the periods of absence or peak workloads.
To develop and maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in NHS information standards and definitions.
Participate in appraisal and personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives
Participate in appropriate training and development activities and maintain a good understanding of available new technologies/techniques.
Ensure all processes have written current procedures and that they are followed and maintained at all times, offering suggestions for improvements to the process as appropriate.
