To complete a range of maintenance and cleansing activities at the direction on of the client to ensure their Town/Parish area is a clean, safe, attractive place to live with well-maintained public spaces in accordance with the Clients values and priorities ensuring all company and policies and procedures are adhered to. Activities will include the maintenance of public open spaces, horticultural features, highway verges, car parks, formal parks, cemeteries and street cleansing duties.
In this job you will
1. Responsible for completing skilled and unskilled tasks involved in the maintenance of public and private grounds anywhere within the Clients jurisdiction in accordance with all relevant company policies, procedures, specifications and statutory requirements. The main activities include horticultural and grounds maintenance, street cleansing.
2. Competently undertake a variety of grounds maintenance and street cleansing activities including, leaf clearance, strimming, litter picking, weeding, application of pesticides/herbicides (where qualified), street furniture maintenance and painting, visual play area inspections with some basic maintenance and repair work required.
3. Drive, operate, maintain and be responsible for the allocated vehicles, plant and associated equipment (when qualified) in the correct, safe and effective manner at all times, including responsibility for the completion of all daily maintenance checks and inspections on allocated vehicles and reporting of any defects in line with the defect reporting procedure. 4. Communicate and liaise with officers and representatives of the client, volunteers, stakeholders, partners and other staff members, in a positive way providing high levels of customer care and service.
5. Ensure completion of appropriate documentation relative to jobholder’s post, i.e. timesheets and work records and Health and Safety records including risk assessments.
6. Ensure all works are carried out to the required specification, both efficiently and economically. All tasks to be completed whilst complying with relevant Health and Safety legislation, council policy and guidance.
7. Attend training courses, toolbox talks, Personal Development Reviews (PDR’s) and other training as required.

We are currently looking to recruit up to an operative to work closely with Crewe Town Council as part of our established Town Ranger service.
The successful applicant will help to ensure the Town is a clean, safe and an attractive place to work by completing a range of maintenance and cleansing activities including;
- Planting enhancements
- Maintenance
- Litter picking
- Emptying of litter and dog bins
- Removal of fly tipped waste
- Maintenance of public realm furniture, play areas, and structures
In order to apply for the role applicants must have a good knowledge of the Town and experience of grounds maintenance operations, cleansing methods and suitable practical maintenance, i.e. painting and general repairs. Experience and knowledge of maintaining play areas in public open spaces would also be beneficial.
You will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions and exert physical effort for the majority of the working day in order to fulfil the requirements of the role.
You will be able to interact and communicate effectively with members of the public in order to portray a professional image of our Company and the Town Council and deliver a quality service.
Literacy and numeracy skills are essential along with the ability to use technology particularly a smart phone to take photographs, record tasks and post on social media when requested.
The successful applicant will hold or be willing to work towards NPTC Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1 and PA6).
The role involves driving a 3.5 tonne transit tipper or electric van therefore applicants must hold a full UK driving licence. You will be required to work in line with the Employee Code of Conduct and work as part of a team. The need to work in a safe manner is paramount and therefore an understanding of relevant safe working practices is required.
