Job Description
The Digital Buildings Technical Lead plays a key role in our global technical consultancy team of specialist consultants and architects. The role is a senior figure in our global consultancy team, delivering high-impact digital transformation solutions across complex real estate portfolios. You’ll bring proven leadership, deep technical domain knowledge, and a passion for shaping the future of smart buildings at scale.
We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead with the ambition to work at the leading edge of industry change, tackling digital transformation at scale and defining the operational standards to maximise the value from building technology infrastructure across global real estate footprints. FPC technology teams sit at the forefront of transforming the built environment through data, cloud infrastructure and smart technology solutions. We partner with clients – including investors, developers, occupiers, and public bodies – across the full real estate lifecycle to develop and implement innovative digital strategies that can scale with high-impact. The role seeks particular experience in IoT operations planning with an ability to define optimal operating models for maximising the value of technology in secure policy driven building environments. The Technical Lead reports to the EMEA Regional Head of Technical Consulting, with dual accountability across regional leadership and global service delivery functions.
Qualifications
Team Leadership
The Technical Lead plays a central role in our Technical Consultancy function, taking ownership for managing and developing their project delivery team while providing broader guidance across the group. In addition to client-facing responsibilities, they contribute actively to team and business development, collaborating across the company to deliver successful projects and support FPC’s objectives. Core leadership duties include:
Team management and leadership within the Technical Consulting function, with responsibility for line management and development of team members
Lead the successful delivery of Technical Consultancy services, ensuring high-quality, professional and technically sound deliverables to clients
Take responsibility for ensuring that projects are delivered successfully and profitably
Serve as a senior technical advisor, supporting the business development team
Support, advise, and collaborate on the latest technologies, market solutions, processes and standards for our clients
Foster the integration of FPC’s mission, values and culture, by encouraging and facilitating a culture of trust, innovation and enjoyment
Experience and Qualifications
We are seeking a Technical Lead with experience and qualifications aligned with the following:
Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience building and maintaining strong client relationships to gain understanding of business requirements and to be able to translate these into technical tasks and deliverables
Proven consulting ability to shape, justify, and implement strategic and operational solutions for managing IoT/OT systems in complex environments.
Experience working in large, complex enterprise environments with layered governance, global real estate portfolios, and multiple service providers or vendors.
Holds sound commercial awareness of professional services delivery, resource management and project performance reporting in line with the contracted project scope
Extensive experience in Operational Technology (OT) and IoT management within smart building environments, including best-practice maintenance models and lifecycle strategies.
Strong understanding of IoT and OT architecture, including communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus), networking layers, and smart building data architecture.
Familiarity with OT assets such as sensors, controllers, metering devices, FDD systems, and alarm management platforms, and their integration into IT systems and broader digital infrastructure.
Strong working knowledge of OT/IoT cybersecurity, including patching, access controls, exception handling, incident response, and alignment with technical risk management frameworks.
Demonstrated ability to translate operational and technical risks into actionable compliance requirements, such as firmware management, credential policies, and vulnerability remediation.
Specialist experience across the full lifecycle of smart building technologies, including involvement in change projects, transition to operations, and operational assurance activities.
Experience defining and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for OT systems, with the ability to critically review, create, and refine technical guidance for ongoing system maintenance and operations.
Understanding of maintenance contracting models, with the ability to provide technical input into service level agreements (SLAs), vendor performance standards, and contract structures for OT support.
In addition to the above, it is desirable if the Technical Lead has experience or qualifications in the design, delivery and operation of Digital Buildings / IoT related systems:
Minimum 8 years Digital / Smart Buildings or relevant industry, with experience in a senior consultancy, engineering or solutions business e.g. Technical Lead, Senior Consultant / Engineer or Lead Designer
Proven track record in Digital Buildings / IoT or related industry, working with world leading clients at a global scale with mixed real estate portfolios (e.g. Commercial Real Estate, Pharmaceutical, Industrial, Data Centres, etc.)
Strong technical skills with experience managing complex projects and experience in leading the development of coordinated Digital / Smart Buildings and MEP Controls designs
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field, or demonstrable equivalent professional experience
Competent using Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office software applications
Professional and industry certifications in relevant digital / smart building solutions and/or related Industry qualifications (e.g. LEED AP, WELL AP, BREEAM Assessor, WiredScore, etc.)
Implementation and/or use of Cloud Platforms (Google, Microsoft, Amazon) and Data Analytics
Additional Information
Working Location
This position is a UK/EMEA based role that serves global clients and requires flexibility in working location, including working from FPC premises, client sites and from home. As a lead role within FPC with global responsibilities, flexibility for working across time zones, alongside some international travel, will be essential.
Key Performance Indicators
KPI’s will require to be discussed and developed in more detail with you, and your Line Manager so they can be measured as OKRs. In principle, KPI’s will be broken down into key areas such as team leadership, project delivery performance, personal development, teamwork, and client relationships/satisfaction.
