At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll be part of the core Radiological Protection Function for HPC, supporting the Radiological Protection Lead in delivering IRR17 compliance across the Company. You’ll have the chance to join the Radiation Protection Adviser Body and solve challenges across the project. Depending on your expertise and interest, these challenges could involve:
- Control of work for novel uses of radioactive material
- Specifying and procuring the operational suite of radiological instrumentation
- Developing emergency response capability
- Initiating a site-wide programme of critical examination and start-up monitoring.
- Transporting complex shipments of radioactive material
This list is not exhaustive, the HPC project is a dynamic environment with many more unique opportunities available on the journey to commercial operations.
A key part of your responsibilities will also involve developing a high-performing team, building training programmes and mentoring junior engineers. You’ll help promote a strong radiological safety culture and act as a key interface with regulators and industry bodies, providing specialist advice where appropriate.
Who you are
You’ll bring strong technical knowledge in radiological protection, ideally backed by a science-related degree or equivalent. You’ll have hands-on experience applying the Ionising Radiations Regulations and other relevant legislation, as well as managing radiological protection equipment and service providers in fast-paced environments. Previous leadership of multidisciplinary teams in regulated settings is essential, along with a proven ability to motivate and guide teams to deliver high-quality work on time and within budget.
You’ll be confident in providing practical radiological protection advice and capable of developing clear, compliant procedures and documentation. Strong stakeholder engagement is a key part of the role, so experience working with diverse teams and resolving issues in multicultural environments is important. You’ll also need to demonstrate the ability to influence and negotiate effectively across technical and non-technical areas.
We’re looking for someone who has worked closely with regulators and has a good understanding of radiological safety within nuclear-licensed sites. Chartered status and prior appointments such as Radiation Protection Adviser or Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser would be advantageous. Experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing junior team members, along with a solid grasp of nuclear industry quality assurance standards, would help you thrive in this role.
If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
Additionally, you must meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which generally requires you to have been a UK resident for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
Closing date for applications: 2nd September 2025
