Do you have demonstrable experience of working within a compliance and enforcement environment working in an local authority and dealing with members of the public? If yes, we want to hear from you.


We have an exciting role within the Licensing Service where you will deal with and progress a range of complex enquiries and provide technical advice to all service users. Progress a caseload of work in specialist areas of Licensing. This will include pre-application through to the provision of detailed and accurate information provided to deadlines and report preparation and decision making.


In this vital role, you will also investigate complaints, incidents and applications and take appropriate action and or refer matters as appropriate without close supervision. Effectively maintain manual and computerised records including the operation of the Licensing data base, inputting, retrieving and manipulating data to provide accurate information as directed.

About you

This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.


Our ideal candidate to have previous experience, of the local authority licensing functions, strong understanding of licensing law, particularly regarding the Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, hackney carriage and private hire licensing, scrap metal dealers and other local licensing regimes. Excellent communication skills are vital for this role, as you will have to deal politely and tactfully with a wide range of people, in, writing, in person and by telephone. Excellent organisation skills and being able to work under pressure are key. The ability to prioritise, plan and manage your time effectively, demonstrating the ability to meet demanding deadlines and ability to handle varied tasks.


The ability to undertake licensing enforcement activities and premises inspections.


A willingness to undertake recognised licensing qualifications such as the Professional Licensing Practitioner Qualification from the Institute of Licensing.
