We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Librarian to manage, develop and promote our school library, ensuring its smooth and efficient operation. The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering a love of reading across the school community and supporting pupils in becoming confident, independent library users.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- To manage, develop and promote the school library and ensure its efficient operation
- To promote an enjoyment of reading and to assist children to grow as confident, independent library users
Key Accountabilities
· To manage the day to day organisation of the library and its resources and stock;
· To manage the work of the Library Assistant, including carrying out appraisals and 1:1s and to supervise and guide any volunteer helpers;
· To supervise children using the library, whether singly or in groups, ensuring that health, safety and welfare procedures are adhered to;
· To assist and guide the children in their selection of books and resources and to promote and encourage an enjoyment of books and reading;
· To provide advice and guidance to teaching staff on the selection of texts for specific age groups and abilities and to support particular topics of study;
· To manage the library budget, in consultation with the School Business Manager as necessary;
· To order new books and other resources, within the limits of the budgetary allocation, as appropriate to the school’s requirements and in consultation with teaching staff;
· To liaise with the School Library Service to loan appropriate books and materials;
· To undertake an annual stock check, chase missing/outstanding books, and carry out repairs to books as required;
· To promote the library through attractive presentation, effective displays and a welcoming environment and to assist other staff with displays throughout the school;
· To enrich the school by contributing, through the individual post holder’s expertise and capabilities, to whole school activities, festivals and events;
· To contribute to the children’s learning and development during teachers’ planning and preparation time.
· To promote reading across the school, through tutor time, the e-bulletin/newsletter and social media as appropriate
· To organise clubs and book groups for students to encourage and share a love of reading;
· Support KS3 Parents’ Evenings with a stall to promote reading
SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL
At an appropriate level, according to the job role, grade and training received, all employees in the school are expected to:
· Support the aims, values, mission and ethos of the school and participate in a team approach to all aspects of school life.
· Attend and contribute to staff meetings and INSET days as required, and identify areas of personal practice and experience to develop.
· Take appropriate responsibility for safeguarding and children’s welfare and be aware of confidential issues linked to home/child/teacher/school and keep confidences appropriately.
· Be aware of health and safety issues and act in accordance with the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
OTHER DUTIES
The postholder may be expected to carry out duties other than those given in the job description where the level of responsibility is similar and he/she has appropriate qualifications or receives appropriate training to carry out these duties.
The postholder must:
· Ensure that trust policies and procedures are implemented and followed;
· Work as appropriate with the Trust Central Services team in matters relating to finance, HR, IT and Health and Safety
