Job Overview
As a Senior Finance Lead, you’ll be the first point of contact providing financial support to both our Central Team and partner schools. Your work will ensure that our financial operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in full alignment with Trust-wide policies and procedures. You will be supported by our experienced Head of Hub Finance.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Budget Management
- Collaborate with Headteachers, budget holders, and the central finance team to lead on:
- Annual budget setting
- Monthly management reporting and updates
- Supporting at least three schools (or two schools plus significant central finance responsibilities)
- Financial Oversight & Compliance
- Approve order requisitions and supplier payments, ensuring alignment with approved budgets Oversee
- Income tracking to ensure all expected revenue is received
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll, bank, and charge card reconciliations
- Conduct balance sheet reviews and prepare year-end accounting journals in line with Trust guidance
- Audit & Policy Adherence
- Support internal and external audits with precision and professionalism
- Ensure compliance with the NEST Scheme of Delegation and Finance Policy & Procedures Manual
- Support & Service Excellence
- Provide expert financial guidance to partner schools, delivering outstanding customer service Assist with a
- range of financial processes, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and on time
- Team Collaboration & Flexibility
- Work closely with the Head of Hub Finance and wider team to continuously improve financial operations
- Take on additional duties as required, aligned with the role’s grade and scope
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above), including English and Maths, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification.
Finance or accounting qualification at Level 4 or above.
Proven experience working within an accountancy or finance office. Demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service.
Experience maintaining financial systems and processes. Previous experience in an educational setting is desirable.
Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle for travel between partner schools.
Strong understanding of school priorities and the financial landscape within education. Proficient in Office 365, including Word and PowerPoint, with excellent keyboard and IT skills. Excel skills and confidence in learning new financial software and booking systems.
Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to build strong working relationships across teams.
Methodical and rigorous approach to managing workload, with the ability to multitask effectively. Confident in delivering training, advice, and support to colleagues.
Discreet and professional in handling sensitive information, with a clear understanding of GDPR and data protection.
Commitment to personal development and active participation in performance reviews.

Pay: £39,855.00-£42,324.00 per year
