This Senior Clinical & Research Fellowship in Bariatric and Upper GI Surgery offers a valuable opportunity to develop advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical skills. While there is exposure and potential training in bariatric surgery, the operative volume is currently limited to 200 cases/year due to the unit’s early development stage and the applicant would have opportunity to assist and be primary surgeon under supervision in suitable cases.
The primary purpose of this post is to support the growth of the bariatric service and take a leading role in academic research and publications. There will be exposure to high-volume benign Upper GI surgery including paraoesophageal and hiatal hernia repairs, LINX procedures, and common bile duct explorations. Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy is also integral to the role. Collaborative research opportunities, including links with local universities are currently being established.
