About the Role:
You will be providing 1:1 support for a pupil who is energetic, engaging, and working significantly below age-related expectations. The successful candidate must be able to:
- Adapt all learning materials to meet individual needs
- Support engagement through active, hands-on learning approaches
- Set firm and consistent boundaries while remaining calm and nurturing
- Use de-escalation and behaviour strategies confidently and professionally
This student may display challenging behaviour, including inappropriate language and occasional physical impulsiveness (e.g. being handsy). It’s essential that you are thick-skinned, non-judgemental, and able to maintain emotional composure at all times.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Has experience working with pupils with complex needs and/or Down Syndrome
- Can confidently manage and redirect inappropriate behaviours
- Understands the importance of dignity, structure, and patience in SEN support
- Is creative, adaptable, and proactive in modifying resources and activities
- Maintains professionalism and empathy in high-pressure situations
