Pay: £95–£100 per day (depending on experience)
Are you an experienced and confident Early Years practitioner ready to support young learners with additional needs during a key stage of their development?
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barnet is looking to appoint a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support Reception children with a range of emerging special educational needs, starting from the beginning of the new academic year.
The Role
You will work closely with Reception pupils as they begin their school journey, many of whom are presenting with early signs of additional needs. Although specific diagnoses are not yet confirmed, the school anticipates a variety of support needs and is looking for someone flexible, proactive, and calm.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 support for children with emerging SEN in the Reception setting.
- Supporting the delivery of systematic phonics (ideally using schemes such as Read Write Inc. or Little Wandle).
- Assisting with the transition to structured learning, while maintaining a balance with learning through play.
- Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt provision based on observations and pupil response.
- Supporting emotional regulation, social development, and routines in the classroom.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has recent experience working in Early Years, ideally in a school or nursery setting.
- Is confident supporting children with SEN, even where needs are not yet clearly defined.
- Understands the importance of early intervention, routine, and consistent adult presence.
- Can deliver targeted support in phonics and early literacy.
- Brings warmth, patience, and initiative to every interaction with children.
Why Apply?
- Join a nurturing and collaborative school environment.
- Play a key role in helping Reception children settle into school life and make meaningful progress.
- Work with a supportive staff team that values child-centred approaches and developmentally appropriate practice.
