The role will provide the post holder with the opportunity to develop key safeguarding skills

Working with other Team members, the post holder will promote and progress the Safeguarding agenda within the Trust, by promoting best practice, implementing standards and monitoring process in line with local and national guidance; as a visible role model, providing clinical support, operationally reviewing patient referrals and providing practical guidance across the Trust.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Reporting to the Named Professional, the post holder will support the Safeguarding lead in actively promoting the role of the Safeguarding Practitioner for Adults and Children and providing LHCH of assurances.
2. To be the first point of contact for any Safeguarding Child and Adult issues brought in from LHCH staff and external partners and formulate the appropriate package of support, chasing up any actions where appropriate.
3.. Act as the conduit for any external agencies and front-line staff to ensure that staff are able to provide more clinical care.
4. Work with the appropriate users, healthcare professionals, support staff and external agencies to support professional development and practice.
5. To actively assist families with learning disabilities, as well as carers and health and social staff when using acute services.
6. Attend and actively participate in Multi-agency strategy and professional’s meeting with a view to possibility of moving to criminal investigations when required.
7. To undertake risk assessment which may impact on safety of adults and children
8. To provide support and advice regarding safeguarding issues specifically for patient but also, in respect of advice more widely and escalate as appropriate through the Safeguarding reporting structure.
9. Contribute to strategic planning by providing professional advice about Safeguarding issues and be responsible for informing the Named Professionals of practice changes and resource implications on the area being supported.
10. Support the Named professionals to provide the Safeguarding lead appropriate assurance that Safeguarding Children and Adults processes are integrated into healthcare delivery.
11. Demonstrate assurances to the Safeguarding lead that LHCH is compliant with statutory responsibilities regarding Safeguarding and to attend and present to LHCH committees as required.
12. Provide expert support, advice and guidance to professionals working with children and adults on issues relating to the protection and safeguarding of children and adults including the Mental Capacity Act.
13. Co-ordinate and assist in the delivery of safeguarding training to meet the needs of the Trust to ensure that colleagues are aware of the Trusts statutory duties to safeguarding adults and children.
14. Contribute to educational sessions to all staff groups, liaising with other agencies and users in order to gain their participation in the education delivery.
15. Effectively deal with complaints, debrief relevant staff and identify improvements following an incident and amend and distribute training accordingly (lessons learnt).
16. To co-ordinate meetings and provide regular updates to divisional leads.
17. Be a highly competent and knowledgeable practitioner.
19. Ensure that own clinical and theoretical skills are maintained and ensure awareness of current developments.
20. Provide an innovative and progressive attitude to the personal and professional development underpinned by research and evidence-based practice.
23. Participate in regular clinical supervision sessions in order to received professional support and time to reflect upon practice.
24. Ensure full and complete clinical records are maintained in accordance with NMC standards.
25. Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times and store all confidential information securely in line with the data protection legislation.
26. Assist in ensuring service delivery during Serious / Critical Case Reviews and ensure actions relevant to the Trust are implemented and monitored.
27. Participate in the regular audits of practice.
