Safeguarding Lead

Sheffield City Council
£37,035 - £40,476 a year
Sheffield, England
Job description

Make a real difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs

At Sheaf Training Centre, we specialise in providing high-quality education and support to Post-16 learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Safeguarding Lead to ensure our learners remain safe, supported, and empowered to thrive in education and beyond.

As our Safeguarding Lead, you will take a central role in overseeing and leading safeguarding and child protection (including online safety) across our provision. You’ll manage internal and external safeguarding referrals, liaise with external agencies, and offer expert guidance to staff on student welfare. You’ll also line-manage our Educational Support Workers, promoting a safe, inclusive, and responsive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on all safeguarding, child protection, and welfare matters within the centre
  • Maintain accurate safeguarding records using CPOMS and escalate incidents as appropriate
  • Provide on-site pastoral and welfare support to learners with a wide range of needs
  • Collaborate with external safeguarding bodies and local agencies
  • Ensure the safeguarding team and wider staff are trained and informed
  • Recruit, manage, and develop Educational Support Workers to deliver effective student support
  • Contribute to the centre’s safeguarding policies and procedures in line with current statutory guidance

At Sheaf Training Centre, we put people at the heart of everything we do. We believe in openness, honesty, and working together to make a difference. We’re committed to equality, diversity, and creating a safe, nurturing learning environment for all.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Equality of pay is extremely important to us. All roles at Sheffield City Council are going through an evaluation process which may result in changes to some pay arrangements from 2026. Find out more on our Sheff news page.
