Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
£55,690 - £62,682 a year
Bradford, England
Full time

Bradford is a thriving, vibrant city and one of the most diverse places in the UK. Additionally, Bradford has a diverse age structure, a high proportion of people aged under 25. Bradford is currently enjoying its designation of UK City of Culture 2025 and increased investment and development to transform it into a hub that celebrates its cultural diversity.

We are looking for a Midwife with significant knowledge of midwifery safeguarding, including experience at operational and strategic delivery level. Do you possess leadership skills, leading teams, multi-agency working, and managing difficult situations, and hold a passion for supporting staff who care for families through socially and emotionally difficult pregnancies to achieve the right outcomes for their newborn babies? Can you hear the voice of the child behind the adults as a focus on achieving the best outcomes for families? Do you have what it takes to work in a challenging environment while imparting knowledge, leadership and expert support to enhance an empathetic and safe experience for all involved in unborn safeguarding, and the skills to develop the strategic direction of midwifery safeguarding for the service?

We need a band 8a lead safeguarding midwife to lead the maternity safeguarding team in improving support and supervision for staff and enable BTHFT to provide the best possible care for families with complex safeguarding concerns.

To be the Named Midwife for Midwifery services, providing strategic and operational leadership, specialist support, and advice for members of staff working in women’s services and the wider Trust and to raise the profile of safeguarding issues in the clinical areas, with a particular emphasis on liaison with external agencies and good practice on attendance, admission and discharge.
To be a key member of the wider Trust integrated safeguarding team, providing specialist information on maternity safeguarding issues and ensuring shared learning between maternity, adult and children's safeguarding teams.
To work closely with wider multi-agency colleagues, including mental health, children's social care, and the police, to ensure the best outcomes for Bradford women, birthing people, babies, and families.
To lead and support the Maternity Safeguarding team in assisting ward managers and staff in the delivery of high-quality Maternity safeguarding practice throughout the service users care journey.
Demonstrate knowledge in relation to safeguarding and practice, such as Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), and relevant internal and external policies and procedures.
Provide safeguarding supervision and complex case management guidance.

Our People Charter outlines the behaviours we can expect from one another and what you can expect from Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust:

We value people

We are one team

We care

We’re keen to meet people who share these values and are passionate about delivering the highest quality of care to our patients.

The post holder assume the position of Named Midwife for Safeguarding and carry out operational responsibilities as set out in Working Together (2023) and the Intercollegiate document (2019) in the application and development of the national safeguarding agenda for Maternity services at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT).

To lead the team to develop safe and effective practice and identify risks in accordance with BTHFT’s Safeguarding Children Policy, to ensure appropriate action is taken in line with the policy and standard operating procedures and guidance.

To support managers and staff in the delivery of high-quality safeguarding adult, unborn and children practice throughout the service users care journey, particularly in respect of robust safe practice in admission, care planning, discharge planning and community care.

The post holder will work closely with all levels of staff in maternity services, the wider trust and with statutory and voluntary agencies to continue to develop safe effective practice in safeguarding newborn infants.

The post holder will develop, deliver and evaluate training, both for use in single and multiagency forums at all levels as identified in the Intercollegiate document.

The post holder will provide safeguarding supervision to maternity based staff and others at all levels across BTHFT
