The Vacancy:
We're looking for a Material Controller to join our team on an 18 month contract, based from our manufacturing facility in Whitstable, Kent. This role benefits from hybrid working with you typically being on site 3 days per week. Also, our working pattern means you finish work on a Friday at 1.30 pm giving you more of a weekend!
As the Material Controller will be responsible for ensuring the effective planning of manufactured and/or purchased material to maximise the effective use of resources and minimise any disruption caused by constraints.
Purpose of the role
- Ensure component requirements are correct and communicated to suppliers in a timely, professional manner.
- Understand and implement any MRP generated 'messages' and amend supplier schedules accordingly.
- Manage open order books to ensure appropriate order coverage and optimal inventory levels.
- Update and maintain all relevant system requirements pertaining to the role.
- Ensure inventory levels of components under individual control are in alignment with departmental objectives.
- Ensure adequate information interchange and interaction with other Supply Chain and Production areas.
- Ensure all activities undertaken are in line with current policies and procedures. Adhering to our quality systems manual.
- Ensure external logistics costs are optimised using normal transportation methods.
- Highlight future supply risks.
- Provide monthly forecast of expected deliveries.
- Proactively resolve invoice queries.
- Continually challenging the traditional planning methods and seeking new simple and effective procedures.
- Identify and remedy excess inventory.
- Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.
- GCSEs in Maths and English.
- A Level or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject such as Business Studies or Logistics is preferred.
- CIPS qualification is advantageous.
- Proven experience in inventory management/supply chain/planning role.
- Aerospace or Defense industry experience is a benefit but not essential.
- Experience of having worked with multi-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to identify problems and offer solutions.
- Result orientated you plan for results.
- A customer first mindset.
- Team player you should have the ability to work collaboratively, resolve conflict and maintain positive relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present data and reports in a clear and concise manner.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Sound working knowledge of ERP systems, preferably Infor.
