We are looking to strengthen our team with the addition of a Material Controller
Purpose of the role
We are currently seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Material Controller to support our manufacturing operations. This role is essential to ensuring the timely and accurate flow of materials—components, raw materials, and work-in-progress throughout the facility, with full traceability and compliance. You’ll also assist production with a variety of tasks as needed. This is a strong opportunity to grow within a dynamic and fast-evolving production environment.
Specific Responsibilities
- Coordinate and control the movement of materials across the shop floor to support production schedules and project timelines.
- Work closely with production, planning, and stores teams to ensure parts and materials are delivered to the correct workstations or cells in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of material movements and inventory using digital and manual systems, ensuring compliance with internal and customer requirements.
- Use forklift trucks and overhead cranes safely and efficiently to transport large, heavy, or sensitive components.
- Assist with incoming material inspection and verification, ensuring materials meet required specifications before release to production.
- Ensure all material handling processes adhere to health & safety and quality standards.
- Support the implementation and ongoing use of the new Manufacturing Execution System (MES), including scanning and documentation protocols.
- Collaborate with the wider operations team to identify and resolve bottlenecks or material flow issues, contributing to continuous improvement.
- Assist with stock checks, cycle counting, and documentation audits as required.

- Always operate machinery and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Proven experience in a materials control, logistics, or shop floor support role in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of material handling principles and stock movement processes.
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in documentation and inventory records.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment with shifting priorities.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
- Familiarity with ERP, MES, or barcode scanning systems is desirable.
- Commitment to health & safety and workplace discipline.
- Physically fit and capable of handling manual tasks, including lifting and equipment operation.
Qualifications and Experience Levels
- Valid Forklift Truck and Overhead Crane operating licenses (essential).
This is a permanent position based at our site in Burnley
Working a 39-hour week
6.30am to 4.45pm Monday to Thursday
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £14.00-£16.00 per hour
