Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Works Manager, the Production Supervisor will lead a workshop team of up to 25 . You’ll be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations within a busy precision fabrication environment — ensuring schedule adherence, quality control, and safety standards are met across all active projects.
You will need to be ready and willing to roll up your sleeves and pitch in alongside the team
This role is ideal for someone with a strong track record in small to medium-scale fabrication, who is ready to lead by example and drive team performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and supervise the flow of work through the fabrication workshop.
- Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings to guide production priorities.
- Maintain output, quality, and delivery targets across concurrent projects.
- Enforce workshop discipline, adherence to safety standards, and company procedures.
- Provide clear instruction and feedback to team members; motivate and mentor to improve capability.
- Collaborate with the Works Manager and Design Office to manage planning and solve production challenges in real-time.
- Ensure tooling, materials, and resources are available and deployed efficiently.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory/lead role within a fabrication or precision engineering workshop.
- Proven expertise in reading and working from technical, dimensioned drawings.
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes — cutting, welding, finishing, sheet metal forming.
- Demonstrated experience scheduling workload and managing production resources.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A team-first attitude with the ability to lead from the front under pressure.
Desirable Attributes
- Formal qualifications in fabrication, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC).
- Experience using workshop scheduling software or ERP systems.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement principles.
