Job Title: Procurement Officer & RDCO Champion
Reports to: Finance Director/Procurement Manager
Location: Motherwell
Hours: 40 hours per week 8am-5pm Monday to Friday
Role Purpose
This dual-role position is responsible for managing the procurement of goods and services while ensuring full compliance with HMRC’s Registered Dealers in Controlled Oils (RDCO) scheme.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Team and ProcurementManager to ensure all purchases are cost-effective, timely, and compliant.
Through time, this role will also extend to supporting the Procurement Manager with the buying of fuel for the business, this will only be required to cover holidays. Full training will be provided to ensure the successful candidate is confident and competent in this key responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Duties
- Source, negotiate, and purchase goods, fuel, and services in line with company requirements and budgets.
- Work collaboratively with the Finance Team and Procurement Manager to manage supplier relationships, contracts, and payment processes.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate with operations to ensure timely replenishment.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier agreements.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or compliance.
- Manage tender processes for significant purchases.
- Undertake training and gradually take responsibility for the buying of bulk fuel to cover Procurement Managers holidays
RDCO Champion Duties
- Act as the company’s lead contact for all RDCO-related matters with HMRC.
- Ensure all controlled oil transactions meet HMRC due diligence requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date RDCO training and ensure relevant staff are informed of compliance obligations.
- Conduct regular checks on customer records, declarations, and supporting documentation.
- Oversee the completion and submission of monthly RDCO returns to HMRC within deadlines.
- Identify and report any suspicious transactions or discrepancies in line with HMRC guidance.
- Keep up to date with changes in RDCO legislation and communicate updates to relevant staff.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous procurement/buying experience in a commercial or fuel-related industry.
- Strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier management, and negotiation techniques.
- Knowledge of HMRC RDCO requirements or willingness to undergo specialist training.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong record-keeping skills.
- Confident working closely with finance and operational teams.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and procurement software systems.
