The Faculty of Law seeks to appoint a Postgraduate Student Administration Officer to support a range of administrative functions for key aspects of postgraduate courses. This is a newly configured role and the job description will remain under review in the early stages of the role.
The Postgraduate Student Administration Officer will join a team of staff involved in supporting postgraduate taught and postgraduate research courses, the postholder will report to the Graduate Studies Administrator for the Centre for Criminology. On a day-to-day basis, they will also work closely with the Course Administrator for the BCL/MJur and the Graduate Studies Officer.
The successful candidate will take primary responsibility for the graduate admissions process for the BCL/MJur courses which will include acting as the primary point of contact for academic assessors and prospective students, providing guidance and signposting to relevant university services and collating lists of applications eligible for funding or scholarships, working with the Student Funding Officer to submit nominations for scholarships. They will be responsible for administration relating to Recognised Students and will work closely with the Graduate Studies Officer to support admissions processes for PGR courses by supporting the maintenance of accurate records of applications, tracking offers, funding, and admissions data while ensuring compliance with university policies and managing visas during the stay of recognised students. During periods in the year where admissions work is not required, the postholder will support on-course administration including providing administrative support to the Associate Dean for Undergraduates for the ‘Preparation for Learning and Teaching at Oxford’ (PLTO) programme.
Candidates should have strong administrative skills, preferable gained in higher education or a similar field; excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a high level of personal discretion and judgement especially when dealing with sensitive, confidential information; strong organisational skills and ability to independently manage a demanding and dynamic workload, prioritising competing demands accordingly and a proven ability to work accurately and independently using their own initiative and work to tight guidelines. It would be desirable for candidates to have experience of working within academic administration.
This is a full time and permanent role and the postholder will be based at the Faculty of Law, St Cross Building, St Cross Road, Oxford, OX1 3UL. The Faculty of Law supports hybrid working with a minimum of 40% based in the office with agreement with the line manager.
