About the Role
The Alba Explorers is seeking one passionate and motivated individual to join our outdoor education team on a 1–2 year fixed-term contract. This role is open to full-time or part-time hours (to be agreed, but a minimum of 3 days per week, and ideally up to 5) and is ideal for someone who wants meaningful, rewarding work with excellent work-life balance.
You will lead engaging outdoor learning sessions for children and young people aged 4–18 across North East Scotland, building confidence, survival skills, ecological knowledge, and a lifelong love of the outdoors.
We provide a comprehensive syllabus to support your planning, making it easier to deliver consistent, high-quality sessions tailored to each school.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver inspiring outdoor and environmental learning experiences in school settings
- Plan and deliver high-quality sessions based on our comprehensive syllabus
- Facilitate engaging activities in team-building, survival, nature, and wellbeing
- Track and reflect on pupil progress throughout the term
- Complete site-specific dynamic risk assessments in line with company guidance and training
- Administer first aid and record any incidents
- Use and maintain outdoor tools and equipment safely
- Record session details, minibus mileage, and award progress (e.g. John Muir Award)
- Build and maintain professional relationships with school staff
- Occasionally transport pupils offsite for walks and nature-based excursions

- £27,000 starting salary (pro rata for part-time), with a review after the first full year

About Us
The Alba Explorers works with over 60 clients across North East Scotland, delivering high-quality outdoor and environmental learning for children and young people aged 4–18. Founded by brothers Jordan and Joshua Lynch, our mission is to show that the outdoors is the most powerful classroom - one that builds character, confidence, and connection to the natural world.
Location & Travel
Applicants must have a full UK driving licence and access to their own vehicle, as schools are spread across the region. We particularly welcome applicants based near Stonehaven, Aberdeen, or Montrose, where many of our schools are located. Punctuality and reliability are essential. If you live elsewhere, you can still apply but beware there will be a commute to schools that you need to plan for and it's important you are never late as schools start at set times .
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience working with children or groups
- Valid First Aid certificate
- Self-motivated, confident, and reliable
- Outdoor skills: shelter building, tool safety, fire lighting, etc.
- Ecological awareness: tree/ plant ID, habitats, foraging
- Full UK driving licence and own car
- Right to work in the UK
- Commitment to the contract/ reliability
Desirable:
- Outdoor qualifications (e.g. Bushcraft, Woodland Leader, Mountain Leader)
- Degree or 3+ years' experience in outdoor learning, ecology, environment, teaching, or conservation
- Minibus training/ licence (or willingness to obtain it via the employer)
Safeguarding
All appointments are subject to PVG Scheme membership. This will be funded by The Alba Explorers.
