The North Cancer Alliance (NCA) is committed to delivering quality care by generating forward thinking collaboration with the six Health Boards in the North of Scotland. We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Leader for the NCA with enthusiasm and a passion for driving forward the best cancer care for patients in the North of Scotland.

The NHS Scotland North regional team is a collaboration of six NHS boards: Grampian, Highland, Orkney, Shetland, Tayside and Western Isles (WI is formally part of the West of Scotland Region however retains a keen interest in North regional collaboration also) who have agreed to work together across a range of services. The region covers half the landmass of Scotland, across particularly challenging geography, and is home to 23% of Scotland’s population. NHS Scotland North regional team is accountable to each of the six NHS Boards and has a lead role in achieving the delivery of the regional work plan and is responsible for the coordination and function of a wide range of specialist and clinical planning groups. As the Clinical Lead for the NCA programme you will play a key role in fostering clinical partnerships and enabling these to deliver the regional working objectives in the North of Scotland.

We welcome applications from healthcare professionals with experience of practicing within cancer services in the North of Scotland. While we encourage applications from a range of clinical specialties—including nursing, pathology, and radiology—our preferred candidate will have a background in medicine or surgery, with demonstrable experience in cancer care.

We are seeking individuals with broad and exemplary experience in the provision and development of cancer services. While recent clinical leadership experience is desirable, all applicants should demonstrate strong core leadership skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Candidates will be recognised for their expertise and contributions within their clinical field.

Working closely with key stakeholders, you will serve as a senior clinician in the North of Scotland. In this role, you will provide both clinical and strategic leadership, operating within the NCA/Regional team structures to ensure regional objectives are achieved and national initiatives are implemented effectively within your area of responsibility.

They will also demonstrate commitment to the delivery of the NCA programmes of work across the region, and provide significant contribution to the prioritisation of future plans. The ability to work across traditional NHS Board boundaries and organisations is essential as is the ability to manage change and service redesign within a complex environment.

Backfill funding will be provided to existing employer to enable release of clinical time to fulfil this role.

Travel, both driving and public transport will be an integral part of your schedule, and we will be looking for people with the ability to undertake this, while remaining productive.

You will be required to utilise every part of your high level strategic, technical and communication abilities and must be able to build trusting relationships with the full range of clinical and managerial staff. You will have current registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. Health Professions Council, General Medical Council with a license to practice).

For informal discussion, please contact Jim Cannon, Director of Regional Planning on 07920283722.
