Junior Interior Designer Job Description
Position Overview
As a Junior interior designer you will have a keen eye for design and be experienced in developing high quality designs from initial concept, through design development, sourcing, and costing to completion. You will work as part of a team to drive and deliver across a variety of projects ensuring all phases of development are on-time, on/under budget and to a high standard. You will Report to the Owner Director and support all aspects of the Interior Design process and to help the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Design Process
- Experienced and fully proficient at using Sketch Up
- Experienced at reading and converting architects plans into Sketch Up
- Creates 2D & 3D rendered Sketch Up models from architect plans and site surveys
- Experienced at developing 3D Sketch model renders as an on-going design tool
- Carry out on site surveys
- Takes accurate as-built measurements for developing floor plans and elevations
- Create design concepts and digital presentations based on the client brief.
- Ability to create CGI designs as required for client projects and marketing purposes
- Attend client meetings in person or on zoom as required
- Present design concepts as required
- Take detailed notes in client meetings to record requests, key actions and next steps and proactively follows up on these meeting minutes to the directors, team and clients accordingly
Sourcing and Costing Process
- Source furniture, fixtures, and fittings in line with the director’s vision, client brief and budget in collaboration with Sourcing Assistant.
- Create sourcing digital presentations with specifications and costs as required to show the client.
- Selects appropriate FF&F products for review
- Order and track samples
- Create custom built furniture specification briefs / presentations with detailed drawings, dimensions and finishes for costing
- Ability to prepare furniture cost estimates
- Set up and prepare project cost / specifications documents for each project and keep updated
- Liaise with suppliers to source the best options for each project and make informed suggestions in line with client brief
- Set up and maintain the business digital library of suppliers/resource
Project Specification & Planning
- Create interior project schedules/briefs for trades to use to tender and build packs
- Create digital presentations to illustrate the interior schedule of works with detailed floor and elevations plans with key dimensions and specifications to support the project brief.
Team Development
- Work as part of a team to drive and deliver projects
- Assists in the training and development of interior design assistants
- Contribute to the development and documentation of internal systems and processes
Additional Responsibilities
- Help to plan, prepare, and attend photoshoots
- Support marketing activities as required such as creating moods boards, CGI’s and finding images to fit the brief and reflect the brand.
- Attend trade fairs and sourcing trips when required
- Keep the office tidy, filed and samples organised
- Deputise for the director in networking meetings when required.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years experience working in an interior design business
- Creative eye for design and detail
- Expert with Sketch Up, CAD and CGI systems and modelling
- Experienced with Power Point and Photoshop
- Conversant with Excel
- Degree in Interior Design or Architecture and Interior Design
- Needs to drive and have access to own car
