The University of Oxford is seeking an Information Compliance Assistant to join our Information Compliance Team. You’ll play a key role in handling requests under data protection and freedom of information legislation, supporting compliance across the University.
Location: University Offices, Wellington Square (hybrid working – both from office and home)
Salary: £34,982 - £40,855 per annum if part time (pro rata)
Contract: Full Time, Fixed Term Contract (until 31st July 2026)

The Information Compliance Team, which is headed by the University’s Head of Information Compliance and Data Protection Officer, is responsible for supporting the University ensure that the University meets its requirements under information compliance legislation

About the Role
This role will be based in the Casework section of the ICT and will mainly be responsible for the processing of freedom of information requests and subject access requests, although involvement in other areas of work may be necessary. It provides an exciting opportunity for someone seeking to develop a career in this field and to take responsibility for important areas of work in the context of an evolving regulatory environment.
  • Manage and respond to Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests.
  • Maintain records, track compliance, and prepare reports.
  • Advise staff on information compliance issues.
  • Contribute to policies, procedures, and training.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and best practice.
About You
  • The ability to understand and apply complex legislation and regulatory processes.
  • Excellent research, analytical and problem-solving skills – able to handle large volumes of information, distil complex issues, and provide clear, practical solutions under pressure.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Strong organisational skills – comfortable managing a high caseload, tracking deadlines, and keeping precise records.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills, able to communicate clearly to both specialists and non-specialists.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – able to build effective relationships across the University and beyond, handling sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Flexibility to move between urgent casework and longer-term projects.
  • Motivation, resilience, and commitment to meeting tight deadlines.
  • A proven understanding of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Educated to degree level or with equivalent professional experience.
Desirable:
  • Experience in higher/further education, public sector, charity, legal or regulatory environments.
  • Previous experience in information compliance, data privacy or FOI casework.
